AP® Biology is designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory survey biology course usually taken by biology majors during their freshman year in college. AP® Biology course focuses on enduring, conceptual understandings and the content that supports them. The AP® Biology course and exam are organized around a few underlying principles called the Big Ideas, which encompass the core scientific principles, theories and processes governing living organisms and biological systems.

Big Idea 1:
The process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life.

Big Idea 2:
Biological systems utilize free energy and molecular building blocks to grow, to reproduce, and to maintain dynamic homeostasis.

Big Idea 3:
Living systems store, retrieve, transmit, and respond to information essential to life processes.

Big Idea 4:
Biological systems interact, and these systems and their interactions possess complex properties.

For each of the big ideas, enduring understandings, which incorporate the core concepts that students should retain from the learning experience, are also identified.

Students may earn college credit for the class by passing the AP Biology Exam given on the morning of Monday, May 12, 2014. The class is conducted at the college level and students are expected to work accordingly. Most successful AP biology students report spending 7-10 hours of study time outside of class, each week. The overall success of the class depends in large part on each student meeting their individual responsibilities.

This year, the AP Exam in Biology is scheduled on Monday, May 12, 2014. Plan now to take the test!!!
AP Biology may possibly be the most difficult course you have ever attempted. If taken seriously, it may be one of the most exciting, rewarding and valuable experiences of your high school years. I will be available for student help before school (I get to school very early) and also sometimes at lunch. If you have any questions please feel free to use to contact me.
